USA Football

To All Lafayette Youth Football Participants and Parents.

Thank you for your patience while the Board of Directors has been attempting to navigate these unique and uncertain times.
Since March, the Board of Directors has been working on a plan that would allow us to have a football season this fall. We have been working on protocols that would follow all Indiana Department of Health, Center for Disease Control, and Tippecanoe County Health Department guidelines for the Covid -19 Virus as it pertains to contact sports. Our procedures were developed with the safety of our participants, parents, and volunteers in mind. We soon discovered that the guidelines regarding social distancing, wearing of a mask, and sanitizing of all equipment was going to be impossible to follow.
The Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Football Season until the spring. We will be posting a new calendar as soon as possible.
Anyone that has pre-registered will be receiving a letter by email explaining the options you will have. Please start looking for the letter in your email in the next two weeks.
We hope you continue to be healthy and safe. We look forward to our first spring season.
Please continue to check back on our web site and follow us on social media for updates.

Lafayette 56ers, Inc is a non-profit youth cheer and tackle football league, established in 1974. The 56ers organization has always been proud of its sports programs, and the level of participation from both the community of Lafayette and parents. We happily accept players from all school districts into our program. We are a member of USA Football, teaching Heads Up Football. This method teaches proper blocking and tackling form to lessen the chance of head and neck injuries.

Please see information regarding Covid - 19 update
All coaches receive instruction and training for these grade levels. All head coaches and board members are certified by USA Football, and all coaches on the field have cleared a background check.

56ers is Lafayette’s Premier Youth Football League.  We happily accept all students from 3rd through 6th grade.

3rd and 4th grade students are grouped together and focus on the fundamentals of tackling, running offense, and some special teams.  This league is referred to as Jr Broncho’s.  One coach is allowed on the field with Jr. Brocho's to call plays, but is encouraged not to "coach" during the plays.

5th and 6th grade students are grouped together and are a more advanced group.  Most players know the runningback positions and offensive holes at this age before the season starts.  Correct tackle technique is taught by our USA Football certified coaches.  All players will have a starting position either on offense or defense.  All players will play at least 6 plays per half.  The 56ers games are played on turf at the Jefferson High School Stadium.  Play clocks are used and enforced.

We reserve the right to adjust a player's age group based on ability and size, keeping player safety the top priority.
